The biggest night in country music took place last night with the 42nd Annual Country Music Association Awards. The set was elaborately done with the theme of the show centered around love and its power over people.Single of the year went to “The King of Country” George Strait. Following the award, Kelly Pickler took the stage to sing “Best Days of Your Life,” co-written by best friend Taylor Swift. Pickler looked completely different from the girl next door that we are used to seeing as she took the stage in a tight, little black dress.
Billy Ray Cyrus and daughter Miley presented Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland with the Song of the Year award for “Stay.”
Country’s New Power Trio, Lady Antebellum, performed their new single, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.” The group got the crowd going with their great stage presence.
One of the best stage performances of the night was Taylor Swift’s “Love Story.” The set was a beautiful castle scene with Swift playing the role of Juliet. The change of costume by Swift in the middle of the song brought a great surprise for the audience.
Lady Antebellum received the award for Best New Artist, Vocal Duo of the year went to Sugarland and Album of the Year went to George Strait for “Troubador.”
The most emotional song of the night was Carrie Underwood’s “Just a Dream.” This was a powerful song done for all the troops in the war. The song was unlike any other of the night because the stage was set black and Underwood wore a black dress that blended into the background. The only thing that stood out was her beautiful voice.
Hosts Underwood and Paisley went home with Female and Male Vocalist of the Year. This was the second time Underwood received this award, and it was Paisley’s third.
The show ended with special guest Shania Twain’s presentation of Entertainer of the Year to Kenny Chesney.
