The The Institute of Industrial Engineers student chapter received the Best Chapter in the Region award at the regional conference they attended last weekend at Clemson University.SMAC recently awarded IIE funding to participate in a regional conference where students took first place. IIE was awarded $2,150 to help cover the cost of the conference.
All of the IIE chapters in the region participated. The conference included a technical paper competition, a design competition, IE Trivia, billiards, optimizing a Straw Tower and IE Bingo. Points were accumulated throughout the conference, and at the end of the week the Golden Eagle team took first place.
“We were very excited to win this award,” IIE Vice President Megan Deising said. “It was one of our goals for the weekend.”
Daniel Hochstein and Jessica Braun took second place in the technical paper competition. The paper was 20 written pages and was presented at the conference. The team was judged on both events.
“Winning these awards is something that IIE will nationally recognize and see how great our chapter is doing,” Deising said.
