Health Fair just around the corner

Health Fair just around the cornerThe phones rang off the hook last Thursday as people called to set up appointments to receive blood work at the annual Campus Wide Health Fair on April 14.

“It was insane,” Ramona Pennington, health promotions coordinator said.

With all the calls received by the Health Care Appointment line last Thursday, approximately 250 people are scheduled to receive blood work. However, Cookeville Regional Medical Center, conductors of the blood and vascular screenings, will not turn down anyone. There should be plenty of time for students deciding to get blood work done on the actual Health Fair day.

The Fair is just right around the corner and all the plans are coming together.

The Medical Center is one of many exhibitors’ booths scheduled to appear at the Fair. Tech Campus alone will have many booths set up to provide health services to the students. The Community Nutrition Class will have a food guide pyramid for healthy eating, Health Services will promote self care and women’s health, EXPW Club will provide technology to get students up and moving, the Dining Services will reveal balanced choices in eating habits, and intramural sports will have a corn hole toss game to get students interacting. TTU’s Army ROTC will also have a station at the Fair.

Chick-Fil-A, Smoothie King, Atnip Chiropractic, Copywright Pet Resort and American Cancer Society is a few of the other businesses around Cookeville who plan to promote their health care services and offer information and activities for students to participate in.

Door prizes and free giveaways will be offered at many of the booths as well. So far, students are eligible for winning a Canon PowerShot Digital Camera, an Ipod Nano and two Ipod Shuffles. Many of the organizations and business will have their own free giveaways at their station.

Pennington feels this day will be a great opportunity for students to “maybe learn something,” because “it’s never too early to start thinking about your health.”

The Campus Wide Health Fair is held at 8:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m on April 14 in both gyms of the Fitness Center.
