Intrepid Traveler showcasing spoken word collaboration

A group of Tech students and local supporters will be presenting a collaboration of poetry, prose, spoken word and monologue at a local café next week. “A Writer’s Reading” will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. April 25 at the Intrepid Traveler Café on 121 W. Broad St. in Cookeville.

This is a first time performance for The Freewrite Group that started meeting last fall. Justin Williams, Tech English major and founder of The Freewrite Group, and Kyla Anderson, biology major, have initiated the performance of “A Writer’s Reading”.

“Last fall, a few us started meeting up to write together once a week,” Williams said. “That blossomed into several writers, and we decided that we should host ‘The Writer’s Reading.'”

Williams said that the core group of performers is from The Freewrite Group, but there are other performers in “A Writer’s Reading” that they have met through the grapevine.

“This is a writer’s melody,” said James Alder, majoring in English with a concentration in dramatic arts. Alder said that this performance will be of a wide variety of pieces and will contain adult content.

“This performance means to express the culture of writing and how broad it is,” Alder said.

The performance is open to the public and is free with a purchase of a beverage or food.

“We are pretty avid about supporting the local venue,” Alder said.

The Intrepid Traveler Café also holds open mic nights, French and German conversation groups and movie nights.
