Two arrested in Cooper/Dunn robbery incident

Capital Quad residence halls were placed on lock down Wednesday following a report of an armed robbery in Cooper/Dunn Residence Hall.At approximately 5 a.m., TTU Police received a report of an armed robbery involving what was believed to be a gun in Cooper/Dunn Residence Hall. But the investigation revealed no gun was confirmed in the incident.

Reports indicate the incident appears to have involved four non-students. Darrion Jerome Brown, 19, of Nashville was arrested shortly before noon Wednesday, and Jerred Griggs, 20, of Sparta was placed under arrest Wednesday evening, according to a University press release.

In addition, the release states that police say Griggs brought two victims to campus where they met Brown, who reported he was staying with a student there.

Brown gained access to the residence hall by using a TTU student’s stolen identification card. He took one victim into the laundry room of Dunn Hall and robbed him, then tried to rob the second victim outside.

According to TTU police, Brown and Griggs planned to commit the robbery together. The incident was drug related.

TTU Police sent out e-mail and text alerts to registered Tech Alert users beginning at 6 a.m., and the Capital Quad residence area was placed on lockdown. Students were urged to stay clear of the area while police continued to search the area.

The lockdown was lifted at roughly 8:50 a.m. when University police reported a person in custody.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to report all campus emergencies and suspicious activity to University Police at 372-3234.
