Members of the Tech chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers recently competed against 25 universities at the regional ASCE conference held at Auburn University. Students participated in individual events to gain points towards an overall placing. The students combined engineering knowledge, problem solving skills, teamwork, and leadership skills to compete in events such as concrete canoe, concrete beam, construction, crash, environmental, professional paper, steel bridge, and visual display competitions.
“We placed 2nd in professional paper, which is worth a lot of points, 2nd in visual display, 3rd in crash competition, and 3rd in construction competition,” Tech ASCE member Samantha Jeffries said.
Placing in these major competitions led to a 5th overall placing for the entire conference. Tech surpassed large universities such as Auburn and University of Tenn. Knoxville.
