Students in Melinda Anderson’s quantity food production course offer a Friday Café for all students. The café is located in South Hall Room 005 and serves lunch from noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays. The cafe offers a three coarse meal and a drink for $7. To ensure the proper amount of food, students must make reservations by Wednesday of the week they wish to eat at the café.
“People love the Friday Café,” department secretary Helen Knott said, “and the community supports it. It’s a win for the department and a win for the students.”
The cafe enables students to experience different aspects of the food industry including preparing a meal, budgeting and serving. Each week, students in Anderson’s class prepare a meal for a maximum of 50 people.
Remaining dates for Friday Café this semester are March 25, April 8 and April 15. Main dishes to be served on these dates are taco meatloaf, smothered chicken and pasta, and chipotle citrus tenderloin, respectively.
