Looking to help someone in need in the Cookeville community? If so, join the Housing and Design Association on Saturday, April 9 in their efforts to help build a house with Habitat for Humanity. The Housing and Design Association links its members with professionals through activities such as field trips, seminars and meetings. Jeff Plant is the faculty advisor for the association, which is made up of housing and design majors from the human ecology department.
“I’m really excited to be doing the build in general,” said Taylor Bellessa, sophomore housing and design major. “I hope to be an architect one day soon, and Habitat is a great way to learn about the home building process. Plus it’s also a lot of fun and a rewarding experience.”
The association has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity on numerous occasions. The association tries to contribute their time and services each semester a home is being built.
Habitat provides housing and design students with firsthand experience in their field of study. However, all Tech students are encouraged to volunteer during the April build day.
