Plans for the Senior Awards Banquet, hosted by Minority Affairs, are under way. The banquet is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 26 in the RUC Noble Cody Executive Suite.
“The awards banquet is to celebrate the graduation of our minority seniors, to honor them and their achievements, and also to honor 12 outstanding students in various areas that have achieved something worth celebrating,” said Corinne Johnson, Minority Affairs secretary.
Minority Affairs hosts this annual event to recognize outstanding students and faculty members for their accomplishments at Tech and in the community.
Anyone planning to attend can expect a short program with a nice meal, according to Johnson.
In the past, the Minority Affairs director served as the Master of Ceremonies. This year, Assistant Director Elizabeth Ojo and graduate assistant Shonta Howell will serve as MCs.
Johnson encouraged students and faculty members to attend the banquet and partake in what she said she believes is a momentous occasion.
“Graduation is a very special time,” Johnson said. “It’s a time to celebrate those achievements that have been accomplished, and we hope that everyone would sincerely think about it as a special time, just one hour or so during the dead hour, and come and join us.”
Seating is limited, so students and faculty who plan to attend must RSVP by either contacting the Office of Minority Affairs or sending an e-mail to cjohnson@tntech.edu.
