Golden Eagle baseball on eight game win streak after win against Berea

The Tech baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games yesterday with a win over Berea College 9-4.
“The key to this winning streak is that guys are picking each other up,” Head coach Matt Bragga said.  “We are just playing good baseball.”
Tech Junior Brandon Thomasson put Tech on the board early with a two-run home run in the first inning.  The home run extended Thomasson’s hitting streak to 13 games.
Tech added three more runs in the fifth starting when outfielder Austin Wulf reached on a fielder’s choice, which scored a run.  Three batters later Junior infielder Daniel Miles poked a two-run single into left center giving the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead.
Berea scored four runs in the top half of the eighth innings, pulling the Tech lead down to one.
However, Tech was able to answer back and extend their lead back to five runs, scoring four in the bottom of the inning.
Seth Lucio came out of the pen and ended the game on three straight strikeouts after giving up a leadoff single. Lucio didn’t qualify for a save because the Golden Eagles held a four run lead.
Tech has been pitching the ball well during their eight-game winning streak, with three starters who have moved to 3-1 on the season.
“Our pitchers are going out and doing their jobs consistently,” Bragga said.  “We haven’t had an unbelievably spectacular outing, but our guys have just been consistently good.”
Tech has also jumped out to a quick start in the OVC with the winning streak, going 5-1 in league play.
“It’s important to get out to an good start,” Bragga said. “We have to look ahead though. We just have to stay consistent and continue to play good baseball.”
Bragga said that he believed that this team still hasn’t played its best baseball yet.
The Golden Eagles will travel to UT-Martin to jump back into league play with a three-game weekend series against the Skyhawks.
UT-Martin comes into the series with an 8-13 overall record and a 1-5 record in OVC play.
“UT-Martin always pitches well,” Bragga said.  “It is always a fun challenge for our guys to play them.”
Tech and UT-Martin open the series Friday at 6 pm, at Skyhawk Park.
