Men’s Golf finishes in top 10 at Red Wolf

Tech men’s golf team traveled to Arkansas Monday and Tuesday for the Arkansas State University Red Wolf Intercollegiate.
This was the Golden Eagles’ fifth tournament of their spring schedule. Tech finished in seventh place in the tournament that they hosted March 18-19, the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
Freshman Mitch Thomas stole the show in Arkansas in hopes of a better finish than seventh.
Thomas lit up the links Tuesday, shooting a career-low, six under par, 66. Thomas’ card tied for the best round in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. Hunter York of Murray State and Tyler Shellnut of UT-Martin also shot 66’s in the fall season.
Thomas finished 7th overall out of 123 players by shooting a tournament total of 214 over the 3 rounds of play.
Freshman teammate Bryce Kendrick improved as well and finished with a 226.
Senior Lee Maxwell and sophomores Maxx Verble and Lee Whitehead followed the freshman leaders.
The Golden Eagles finished 10th out of the 20 teams in the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate. Tech beat out OVC competitors Eastern Illinois (20th), SIU Edwardsville (14th) and Tennessee State (tied-11th) and finished 4 strokes behind UT-Marin (9th). Austin Peay won the tournament by finishing 15 strokes in front of the 2nd place finishers.
The Golden Eagles wrap up their regular season schedule at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate April 15-16 before heading to the OVC tournament April 25.
