Tech hosted the fifth annual Festival of Voices Friday, featuring five Tennessee high schools and Tech Chorale.
Friday morning, students from individual high schools performed for Dr. Kevin Fenton for approximately thirty minutes. Fenton is a professor of choral conducting and ensembles at Florida State University and directed the performance last year.
After the individual performances, Fenton worked with each choir for 20 minutes. Lunch was provided and Tech Chorale performed for the high schools followed by a three-hour practice directed by Fenton.
Dr. Craig Zamer is the director of choral activities at Tech and instructs multiple singing groups including Tech Chorale.”We had some members of the TTU concert choir, all of Tech Chorale and all five high school choirs come together and rehearse for approximately three hours with Fenton to learn two pieces of music that they had never seen before,” said Zamer.
The evening was held at 7 p.m. in the Wattenbarger Auditorium. The White County Chorus performed “Laetatus Sum” and “Into the West.” Wilson Central’s choir sang “Old Time Religion” and “Saints Bound for Heaven.” The Summit Chorus performed “That Lonesome Road” and “All My Trials.”
Mount Juliet’s choir ended the high school performances by singing “Laudate Dominum” and “God Bless America.”
After these performances, Tech Chorale sang two songs, “Down in the River to Pray” and “Cells Planets.” All five groups sang “Invictus” followed by “Saints Go Marchin’,” which concluded the Festival.
