Let’s taco ’bout a new restaurant next to campus

With all of the additions affecting campus, it can be argued that Victor’s Taco Shop is one that students are happy to see fill the void on North Walnut Avenue.

The Mexican restaurant officially opened on Jan.13 across the street from Tech’s campus next to Crepe and Crème.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in and I was surprised to see that there were a lot more things on the menu than tacos,” Trevor Inman, senior mechanical engineering student, said. “It happened to be a really good value because the store had specials on certain items on the windows out front.”

The menu includes tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, fajitas and even breakfast burritos. The items can be purchased as a single or a combo. Additional sides, like chips with salsa or queso, rice and beans, are available also.

“It tasted great and it filled me up. Five out of five Golden Eagles,” Sam Nelson, senior political science student, said.

Bright, bold letters cover the front windows, which make the restaurant casual and inviting. Inside, speakers play different genres of Spanish music to create a fun environment.

Having another student friendly restaurant next to campus makes getting lunch more convenient for students who don’t want to lose their parking spot. The restaurant also gives students more options compared to the surrounding choices.

I can vouch for the chicken quesadilla deal that includes a drink. I am usually skeptical because some restaurants only include meat and cheese in a quesadilla, but Victor’s Taco Shop won me over with the variety of fillings and portions of their food.

The family-owned restaurant migrated from Phoenix, Arizona, to establish itself in Tennessee, according to their website. Other restaurants are located in Bellevue, Knoxville and Columbia.

Victor’s Taco Shop is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day at 642 North Walnut Ave.
