Cookeville police arrested a Tech student on charges of possession of child pornography on Sept. 5.
According to a press release, the Cookeville Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children, issued a warrant for an investigation regarding sexual exploitation of a minor for the residence of Tatsushi Shibata.
Shibata, 24, is a senior accounting major at Tech. originally from Japan.
This is the second case involving an alleged child exploitation case at Tech within the past year. In October, Cookeville police issued an arrest warrant for Dr. Omar Elkeenlany, a former engineering professor, for possession of child pornography on his school computer.
Britney Beaty, who is a student at Tech, wrote an article for “The Oracle” about this case. “After he was indicted, it was believed that he fled the country,” said Beaty. However, he has yet to be arrested.
The Cookeville Police Department declined to provide details on the case.
