Tech takes another OVC win against Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 24 to put the Golden Eagles 10-6 in the conference.

The Golden Eagles are paving the way back to an OVC championship after winning their 6th consecutive OVC regular season matchup in the Hooper-Eblen Center on Saturday.

The first face off between the Golden Eagles and the Panthers was a close match that fell in favor of Eastern Illinois. This time the purple and gold were ready to defend and took the win 75-73, leading nearly 36 of the 40 minutes of play.

Team leaders were Maaliya Owens with 21-points, 2-rebounds, 3-assists and 3-steals. Yaubryon Chambers with 15-points, 5-rebounds and 2-assists. Anna Walker with 14-points and 5-rebounds. Peyton Carter with 10-points, 10-rebounds and 6-assists.

Tech honored five players on senior night: Anna Walker, Peyton Carter, Kiera Hill, Maaliya Owens and Yaubryon Chambers.

Coach Rosmond sees her players to be the most aggressive team on the floor, and she credits this for the recent winning streak.

“We continued what we started about four games ago being the most aggressive team on the floor and when we do that, we’re a very good basketball team,” Rosmand said.

The winning streak for the Golden Eagles began on Feb. 8 against SEMO with a 76-66 win and continued with Lindenwood, Tennessee State, Western Illinois and SIUE. All of these wins were double digit victories. Eastern Illinois added number six in the winning column with a one possession win.

Can the Tech team keep the winning streak alive? This is the last week of regular season play for the Golden Eagles. The team will face UT Martin on Thursday, Feb. 29 and Little Rock on Saturday, March 2. The Golden Eagles have won their last three games on the road.

The Golden Eagles currently sit at second in the OVC with UT Martin just behind them at third. The first matchup, dating back to December, did not fall in favor of the Golden Eagles. A slow first and fourth quarter put the Tech team back, losing 67-58. The upcoming Thursday night game is huge for the post season standings.
