Housing and Design students Chattanooga bound

Several students from the Housing and Design Association will travel to Chattanooga tomorrow to gain more insight on environmentally friendly architecture and art. “We hope to gain some inspiration and knowledge as well as have a day out as a group,” said Jessica Robinson, HDA president.

One of their visits will be a tour of the Majestic Theatre, the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified theatre. In order to obtain a LEED certification, a building owner must meet the requirements set by the U.S. Green Building Council. These requirements help building owners create solutions for a green design, as well as using a guideline to produce a more environmentally friendly way of constructing, operating and maintaining the building.

The students will also visit educational places such as the Hunter Museum of American Art to see examples of art and architecture, as well as sights such as the Tennessee Aquarium and the Incline Railway.

“We chose Chattanooga because it is close enough for a one-day trip,” Robinson said. “The Hunter Museum has a lot of educational value towards our studies, and the Incline Railway just looks like fun.
