Pi Kappa Alpha won Delta Gamma's annual philanthropy competition, Anchor Splash, Oct. 2 and Oct. 4 which DG collected $6,500 over the course of these two days.

This two-night event kicked off with Chacos and Tacos night, Monday on Centennial Plaza which featured tacos, a chip dip competition and a corn hole tournament.

On Wednesday, about 300 students went to the Fitness Center pool to watch 12 Greek organizations go head-to-head in pool games a synchronized swimming competition.

Both events cost $3 to attend.

“We hold this event every fall and it gets both the community and the campus community involved,” Victoria Mahoney, vice president of foundation for DG, said. “It really shows how people can come together and have a great time to support a great cause.”

PIKE won Anchor Splash the past two years.

“Being apart of Anchor Splash helps us foster relationships whether it comes to Greek life or student life and it shows that fraternities aren’t all about doing keg stands. We actually generally care about the community,” Ian Bass, alumni of PIKE, said.

Proceeds from both nights benefit the Delta Gamma Foundation, with most of the money raised going to Service for Sight and Tennessee School for the Blind. The rest of the money goes to the Golden Anchor Program that benefits the elderly, and the Joining Forces Program, that benefits visually impaired veterans, Victoria Mahoney, the organizer of Anchor Splash said.

‘It’s really amazing how much money we raised and we only hope to increase the amount in the future,” Ayla Jones, DG president, said. “It would be wonderful if the whole campus and non-Greek organization would participate. I believe that is the direction we want this event to go in the future.”
