Three-month-long hunt for new Tech Provost continues

Twelve candidates remain for provost and vice president of academic affairs after a search that included 69 applicants.

A search committee led by Deans Liz Mullens and Paul Semmes, as well as administrators from the provost’s office, are searching for a qualified candidate to “articulate and implement an academic vision and provide leadership to develop and execute strategic plans to carry out the vision and mission of the University,” according to an official position description from Tech.

Screening for applicants began Oct. 16. Airport interviews took place in Nashville the week after Thanksgiving for 12 selected applicants and on-campus interviews are scheduled to take place in late January, according to a statement released by Mullens.

Dr. Mark Stephens currently serves as interim provost, replacing Bahman Ghorashi. Sharon Huo serves as associate provost.

The provost is responsible for updating academic activities for campus and promoting Tennessee Tech to prospective students. The provost also manages general on-campus activities and events for students.

The Oracle filed an open records request seeking the applications.
