  • Tech’s population is expected to grow by hundreds this weekend as students and families celebrate the annual Family Weekend on campus.
Organizers from Tech’s Office of New Student and Family Programs planned this event to give families a glimpse of their child’s college experience through several activities around town.
“A lot of parents and families get to just come in and experience Cookeville with their student,” Courtney Brehm, assistant director of New Student and Family Programs, said.

Additionally, two new events were added to this year’s schedule. The School of Agriculture is expected to display various insect collections including honey bees and the College of Education is expected to give tours of the new VISION Lab.
“It’s a virtual reality experience that students get to use in the classroom to experience what the actual classroom is going to be like,” Brehm said.
Brehm said a big part of student success is having parents and families involved in their student’s education.
“I look forward to this family weekend because my brother is also going to Tech this year so now it won’t just be me,” Gabrielle Turney, junior human ecology major from Nashville, said. “We will both be able to show them around or show them where our classes are.”
