Biology department to host free Nature Fest

An event for those who enjoy nature and outdoor activities is right around the bend. Tech’s biology department is hosting a free, four-day Nature Fest highlighted by professional tips on fishing, hiking and various wildlife-related activities. The sixth annual Nature Fest is scheduled for next week and is an event for all ages, where nature lovers can hike, listen to wildlife lectures, and participate in nature activities. Most of the outdoor activities will be held at Cane Creek Park, and the indoor events will be held in Pennebaker Hall.

“Nature Fest is especially exciting because although it is for all ages, it gives many children their first experience using a microscope and really gets them involved with nature,” said Amy Burgess, a junior conservation biology major at Tech.

Some of the many events included in the four days are an exhibit on endangered species on Thursday, a visit by bat expert Mick Harvey on Friday, a scavenger hunt and fossil exhibit on Saturday, and a Tennessee Wildlife Exhibit and visit from National Marbles Champion Jeff Kimmell on Sunday.

Nature Fest is organized by Tech’s biology department, in conjunction with the Cookeville Department of Leisure Services, the Cookeville-Putnam Chamber of Commerce, and the Nature Fest organizing committee.
