The beloved potato can be found on dinner tables, in various forms, around the globe. Mashed, fried, softened, chopped or sliced, the potato is a staple for American cuisine. Although, potatoes should not only be deemed worthy for consumption purposes. The opportunities for potatoes are endless.
-
Sunburn Relief- The antibacterial properties in potatoes can provide soothing healing to minor burns. Either cut into thin pieces or grate and mix with water to use as a homemade ointment to instantly cool down your skin.
-
Mashed Potato Face Mask- Thanks to catecholase, a chemical in potatoes, potatoes can aid in wrinkle and blemish reduction, a perfect addition to your daily skincare routine. Peel and mash the potatoes, then add fresh lemon juice. Evenly apply the mask over the entirety of your face, avoiding direct contact with your eyes. You can also reduce dark circles by placing two sliced pieces over your eyes, refrigerate pieces to help with puffiness.
-
Rust Remover- Cut a potato in half and firmly rub the inside portion on rusted surfaces. The acidity in the potato, oxalic acid, makes for an effective rust removal agent.
-
Glass Cleaner- Use raw potato slices to remove smudges from glass, then wipe away any potato excess with a clean cloth (microfiber towels are suggested).
-
Self Defense Device- Place several potatoes in a long, thick sock and tie off securely at the top. For maximum efficiency, rapidly swing the sock in a circular motion and scream as loud as possible. A friendly reminder that weapons are not allowed on campus!
As innovative and adaptive humans, we should come together to continue the expansion of potato usage.
