Golden Eagles look ahead to postseason

The success that the Tech Women’s basketball program has recently had has been nothing short of incredible. The Golden Eagles currently sit at 22-5 overall and 16-2 in the conference, winning 13 in a row.

With their win on Saturday against TSU, Tech solidified themselves as one of the top two seeds in the OVC tournament, meaning they will automatically qualify for the semifinals round of the tournament.

Not only does this impressive resume set them up well in the OVC tournament to potentially get the number one overall seed, it makes a strong case for them getting a bid into the NCAA tournament in March.

However, the Golden Eagles are not worried about that right now. Head coach Kim Rosamond said “We’re just focused on the next game. And while all that is awesome…it’s not even in our mind right now. It’s about the next game.”

This quote by Rosamond was in the postgame press conference video after the Golden Eagles had just beaten their rival UT Martin 70-55 for their 12th consecutive win.

The OVC tournament will take place in Evansville, Indiana, at the Ford Center on Mar. 5-8. The first two seeds in the tournament get first and second-round byes.

If Tech is awarded the number one seed, they will play the winner of game three, which is a contest between the fourth seed and the winner between the eighth and fifth seeds.

If they earn the second overall seed, they will play the winner of game four, which will either be the fourth, sixth, or seventh seed.

The semifinals matchups take place on Mar. 7 at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively. The championship game will be played on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 3 p.m.

Selection Sunday will be on Mar. 16 at 7 p.m. on ESPN, where the Golden Eagles will officially know their postseason fate one way or the other.

Regardless of whether the committee views Tech as a tournament team or not, the 2024-25 season was a resounding success. As it currently stands, the Golden Eagles have multiple players averaging double-digits in points per game.

Junior guard Reghan Grimes currently leads the team with 12.9 points per game, while freshman guard Chloe Larry is not far behind with 12.0 points per game.

Senior guards Peyton and Keeley Carter are both hovering around 11 points per game, while senior forward Anna Walker is just outside double digits with 9.5 points per game.

Walker is also among the conference’s best shot blockers, averaging 1.7 blocks per game which is third among all OVC players.

The Golden Eagles have two more games remaining in the regular season to prepare for the OVC tournament between Western Illinois and Lindenwood.

The battle against Lindenwood will likely decide who gets the number one overall seed in the tournament and will arguably be the most anticipated matchup of the entire OVC season.

The game will be played this Saturday at the Hooper Eblen Center and tipoff will be at 1 p.m. so be sure to support the seniors for their last game in The Hoop.

The Golden Eagle seniors include Anna Walker, Peyton Carter, Keeley Carter and Taris Thornton.
