The Tech Softball squad has opened up their 2025 campaign and are fresh off of the UNCG Invitational.

The Golden Eagles have played good competition in the early season so far, and the UNCG Invitational was no different. To open up the tournament, Tech split with George Washington University and UNCG.

The Golden Eagles took down the Revolutionaries 4-1 before falling to UNCG 9-6. In day two of the tournament, Tech was able to get the win against Iona in a tight-fought game 3-2.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles found themselves down 2-0 to the Gaels.

However, thanks to a couple of clutch doubles by junior outfielder Sofia Carroll and a home run by freshman pitcher Lainey Fitzgerald, Tech was able to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and top Iona in the final day of the UNCG Invitational.

Fitzgerald also stood out on the mound on Saturday, striking out 14 en route to splitting the games between George Washington and UNCG.

Tech officially started their 2025 season on Feb. 7 in the Furman Paladin Invitational. The Golden Eagles faced SC State and then Stonehill in a double header, dropping both games on opening day.

Day two of the FPI yielded different results as Tech took down SC State 5-1 and then defeated Evansville 2-0.

The last day of the Invitational was Sunday, Feb. 9 as Tech took Evansville into eight innings, winning 7-4.

Following the Furman Paladin Invitational, junior pitcher and infielder Addison Abell earned OVC pitcher of the week honors in her first week as a Golden Eagle.

Abell played high school ball at White County and was the district MVP her senior year before committing to Union College to play at the next level. After playing two years at Union, Abell returned closer to home to play for Head Coach Danielle Penner.

Abell, in her first week of action, finished with an ERA of .064 over the course of 11 innings. Her opponents were only able to muster a .256 batting average and were struck out ten total times throughout the week.

After the Golden Eagles wrapped up the FPI, they shifted focus to the Army Columbus Classic on Feb. 14-16. On the first day of the tournament, they were able to split, beating Army 9-0 in five innings and then losing to Syracuse 3-0.

Day two of the tournament saw Tech fall 2-1 to Army and then 12-1 to Syracuse in five innings. Inclement weather prevented Tech from taking on LIU on the final day of the tournament.

The Golden Eagles currently sit at 6-6 overall and will travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to take on Evansville and Western Kentucky on Friday in the Hilltopper Spring Fling.
