The Tennessee Tech Softball squad recently swept conference opponent Western Illinois, winning all three games in the weekend series.

On Saturday, March 22, Tech took down the Leathernecks twice. Game one went into extra innings, ultimately resulting in a 5-4 victory in favor of the Golden Eagles.
Later that evening, Tech controlled the game from start to finish, taking care of Western Illinois 14-5 in just five innings to win the series and be set up perfectly to sweep the Leathernecks the next day.
On Sunday, March 23, the story was much the same. Tech scored nine runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 12-3 victory to complete the sweep. Bats were hot over the weekend as Tech saw numerous different players earning base hits and scoring at will.
According to an article on ttusports.com by Thomas Corhern, sophomore utility player Abbee Klinefelter drove in four runs in Saturday’s games alone.
Senior infielder Sydney Kirby contributed as well with four hits on the day, while junior utility player Makayli Harris finished with three. Freshman infielder Ashley Capelouto was also able to drive in three runs to help Tech earn some momentum in the conference.
After their victories over the weekend, the Tech softball squad currently sits at 10-19 overall and 4-6 in the conference. This puts the Golden eagles near the middle of the pack in the OVC standings, as they currently sit in sixth place.
In the 2023-24 season, Tech finished right around .500 with an overall record of 23-24 and a conference record of 12-13.
The Golden Eagles are coached by Danielle Penner, who is in her third season as head coach at Tennessee Tech.
Next on the schedule for Tech will be bitter-rival UT Chattanooga on Tuesday, March 25 at home, which will benefit the Golden Eagles as they are 4-4 at home as opposed to 0-7 on the road this season.
Following their single-game contest against the Mocs, Tech will take the road this Saturday and Sunday for their three-game series against conference opponent Southern Indiana.
The Screaming Eagles are near the bottom of the conference, sitting at 6-17 overall and 3-5 in the OVC.
