Tennessee Tech University students were thrilled to hear the rumors of a Taco Bell coming to campus. The real question they are asking is if this is all a rumor or are a lot of students are about to be filled with joy when they see the restaurant arrive. The news of a possible Taco Bell has been shared on Yik Yak(a blog-like site for students) and word of mouth, but nothing official has been said or posted on the TN Tech Dining Instagram page as new restaurants in the past had been announced.
Tech currently offers Chick-fil-A, Poets, Tu Taco, Einstein Bros, Which Wich, and Papa Johns. The Caf is also offered but many upperclassmen would instead choose to eat at a restaurant. When speaking overall to students many underclassmen that have meal plans say that they will just go by the Caf for their meals using their meal swipes and some even have the opportunity to get a free meal exchange a day. Ella Mccoy is a freshman that lives on campus and has a meal plan. She told me that she would stop by the Caf a couple times a day but one thing that many students have mentioned that she said is, “ I enjoy having the meal exchange a day but I do get tired of getting Chick-fil-A.” Even though Tech does offer a range of restaurants on campus they are not all in a convenient spot for students since they are spread out around campus. The Chick-fil-A and Tu Taco are located in the Swoops, which is located underneath the Caf and is in the university center. Although Tu Taco is offered, students would still rather have something more mainstream and that they are familiar with. Taco Bell is especially a hit among the students who do not live on campus. Most of the time commuters have to find a way to spend their time between classes and find a lunchtime spot on campus, especially if they do not want to lose their parking spot. Abby Anderson said,” I love Chick-fil-A but it does get tiring eating it multiple times a week and I am just not really a big fan of Tu Taco. When I heard that Taco Bell may come to campus I loved to hear that to have something to eat that is the complete opposite of Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell is also so cheap in my eyes.” Taco Bell does offer a large menu with a section that has food items as low as a dollar. This would be a place that all students would be able to enjoy.
The question that still remains is whether Taco Bell is just a rumor or whether will it actually make its appearance on campus. Even though students would love to be able to enjoy the Mexican fast food restaurant at the end of the day it comes down to Tennessee Tech as to if we will see it on campus.
