Sophomore Katherine Bell finished third individually to earn her first career all-tournament honor, helping the Tennessee Tech women’s golf squad tie for fourth place at the Belmont Invitational at Old Hickory Golf Club Tuesday afternoon. The teams got in part of one round Monday before rains halted play, and the tourney wrapped up Tuesday with the completion of the only round.Bell’s score of 76 earned the Jackson, Tenn., native her first all-tourney honor. She was one shot behind medalist Stephanie Smith and runnerup Karisa Akin, both of Middle Tennessee, who tied at 75.
MTSU won the team title with a score of 305, nine shots better than UAB (314). Belmont (321) placed third, while Tech and Austin Peay tied for fourth place with scores of 324. Lipscomb was four shots back at 328, followed by Trevecca Nazarene (358) and Tennessee State (360).
Tech had three golfers among the top 20 in the field of 50 golfers. In addition to Bell’s third place effort, senior Carley Rhyne and freshman Katy Beth Glover tied for 18th place with scores of 81. Amanda Randolph (86) tied for 34th place and Brandy VanEtten (87) was 37th.
Coach Brandy Stout’s lineup also included a pair of golfers competing individually for TTU. Senior Lindsay Spradlen (85) finished 32nd and Amber Shepherd (92) was 41st.
The Golden Eagles have one final regular season tournament on tap before the Ohio Valley Conference champinships, April 21-23. Tech will be in Richmond, Ky., this weekend for the EKU Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Arlington Golf Course.
