Career Services to host Business Fair April 9

Are you a student of the College of Business or Arts and Science? Are you tired of wasting your time at career fairs geared toward engineering and technical majors? Get your resume revised and your business suit ready, because Tech is having the career fair for you.The College of Business in conjunction with Career Services is scheduled to host the 2009 Business Fair from 10a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 in the RUC Multipurpose Room.

“This is the College of Business’ idea,” Career Service Director Alice Camuti said. “They wanted to do a nontechnical fair and have it advertised out to our Arts and Science majors.”

There are a total of 31 businesses attending. Some of the businesses attending the fair include eMids Technology Inc., Edward Jones Investments, Disney Worldwide Services, Internal Revenue Service, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Wells Fargo, and the Peace Corps.

“I’m excited about the Peace Corps coming,” Camuti said. “Your generation of students is very concerned about making a difference.”

The businesses are looking for different kinds of majors. Some of the majors specifically listed are accounting, finance, business management, professional communications, marketing, computer science, MIS and engineering.

While some businesses are looking for full-time employees, others are looking for part-time employees or interns.

“Because we have those internship opportunities and part-time jobs,” Camuti said, “I’d recommend not only graduating seniors but all students to attend.”

Camuti suggested students attending the career fair bring 30-40 resumes.

Camuti also recommended proper attire. Men should wear dress pants and at least a tie, possibly a jacket. Women should wear dress slacks and a blouse or a suit.

“We have never had a fair this close to the end of school,” Camuti said. “I think the job situation may be on more students’ minds. We expect to see a large turnout.”
