Dean of Students Katherine Williams
Tech’s Student Government Association is now working alongside the new dean of students.
Dean Katherine Williams is the new SGA adviser and is looking forward to working with the SGA leadership.
“The Student Government Association strives to serve Tennessee Tech students by advocating for the best higher education experience possible for them. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with these student leaders to accomplish their goals.” Williams said.
SGA President Mason Hilliard is also looking forward to working alongside Dean Williams.
“She’s a very good advocate for SGA and for the students here at Tech,” Hilliard said.
This year SGA wants to focus on better communication to the Tech community and implementing changes in hopes of bettering campus. For example, Hilliard proposed revamping the Mr. and Ms. Tennessee Tech elections.
“I think a lot of the times, people that are non-Greek think that the only people that can run are people that are affiliated with Greek life and that’s not the case,” Hilliard said. “We are mainly focusing on keeping the playing field equal to everyone, to hear their concerns or opinions.”
Hilliard expects there to be bills about parking.
“We have a voice and an opportunity to make change but that takes time. When we have bills come in we take them into very serious consideration,” said Hilliard. Students and SGA senators are encouraged to write bills that are important to the Tech community.
“I want to make sure that everything we do is impacting students for the best,” Hilliard said.
SGA meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. every Monday in Johnson Hall auditorium.
